Maeshafn Playing Field, Village Road, Maeshafn, CH7 5LR
Maeshafn playing field was created over 40 years on land owned by Aberduna quarry which was then gifted to Llanferres Community Council in 2019.
The park was transformed in spring 2021 when new play equipment was installed and now boasts a basket swing, 2 flat seat swings, a multi-play climbing frame, 3-way ball catcher, and spring rocker.
Access to the park was made easier for those with wheelchairs, pushchairs and mobility scooters with the laying of a new hard standing path from the main gate, past the climbing frame and up to the swings.
Picnic tables, benches, repairs to the goal posts and storage shed and the planting of bulbs, shrubs and trees to improve biodiversity, completed the works with the help of a grant from Clocaenog Forest Wind Farm Fund.
The park won its first Green Flag Award in 2022 and again in 2023 and 2024.
Maeshafn Orchard, Village Road, Maeshafn, CH7 5LR

The Heulog, Village Road, Maeshafn, CH7 5LZ
This area of land was originally a lead mining site and when work ceased in 1907, it was left covered in heaps of mining waste, some of which was removed in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
Waste materials were dumped here during the 1960’s when the new Vauxhall car factory in Ellesmere Port was built and again in the 1970’s to dispose of spoil excavated during the building of the Maeshafn and Llanferres sewage system.
The open mineshafts were finally capped off in 1978 and the site is now registered as Common Land (CL 251) under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000.
Today the Heulog is a haven of Biodiversity with at least 25 different species of trees and bushes. Over 118 species of flora, ferns and grasses were recorded when monitored over an 8 year period.
